Bureaucracy Workout
Bureaucracy Workout is a structured improvement process which enables employees to directly improve the operational processes they administer and manage. The underlying principle of Workout is that those closest to problems are the most suitable to resolve and fix them. The objective of the activity is to take unnecessary work out of a system, hence the name! It enables employees and operatives to find a better way of satisfying customers (both internal and external) by working in a collaborative way, usually cross functionally, to solve real business problems.

Workouts are delivered as business improvement activities or events, normally lasting 1 to 5 days, after which the improvement strategy is either implemented or discontinued. At the work-out event a small team of employees work on specific business issues that are defined by a sponsor and the event is managed by a Workout Facilitator. Opportunities for improvement are defined as those that can be fully implemented within 90 days and normally do not require any IT change. Anything that is more complex is excluded at the scoping stage. Workouts are split into three stages; the build-up, where participants and identified and the opportunity scoped; the work-out event, where the root cause of problems or opportunities are explored for solutions; and the implementation, where whatever solution that is agreed upon is implemented.

BWO101 - Bureaucracy Workout Awareness

This one day workshop is for business and operational employees who wish to understand how a ‘business workout’ approach works so that they are able to participate effectively within a business workout. Workouts are delivered as business improvement activities or events, normally lasting 1 to 5 days, after which the improvement strategy is either implemented or discontinued. At the work-out event a small team of employees work on specific business issues that are defined by a sponsor and the event is managed by a Workout Facilitator.

 
 
BWO102 - Bureaucracy Workout Facilitator

This three day workshop is for business and operations managers who wish to facilitate ‘business work-outs’ within their business. Participants will learn the basic elements of bureacracy workout, the workout process, roles and responsibilities, event planning, contractig with sponsors, problem solving skills, implementation planning and facilitation skills.
Workouts are split into three stages; the build-up, where participants and identified and the opportunity scoped; the work-out event, where the root cause of problems or opportunities are explored for solutions; and the implementation, where whatever solution that is agreed upon is implemented.

 
 
Deploying Workouts
 
Bureaucracy Workouts are not simply the application of analysis tools, they are about challenging the status quo within a business. They are about finding a better way to do things every day.  Workout events require a workout facilitator and are run over 1-5 days during which a problem/opportunity is resolved and an implemention planned that will result in a benefit within 3 months.  By nature these solutions are often simple and easy to deploy. More complex projects are delivered through more structured interventions.
