What is Six Sigma?

Six Sigma is a powerful business improvement approach that provides operational managers and their staff with the ability to maximise business efficiencies by controlling process variation and reducing defects to ensure that customer requirements are met. It has become increasingly popular over the last 15 years with many manufacturing and service businesses realising sustained performance improvements after they have successfully adopted Six Sigma principles.

  The DMAIC Methodology

In its simplest form Six Sigma can by viewed as a business improvement methodology and a management approach to improve the effectiveness of a business. The DMAICT Methodology (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve & Control) is at the heart of Six Sigma providing a robust framework for improvement projects. Each stage has clearly defined deliverables and a toolkit from which practitioners can select the appropriate tools and techniques to deliver the project.

Six Sigma Training

Curriculum & Format

Our curriculum has been designed and developed in consultation with three General Electric (GE) Master Black Belts who specialise in delivering improvement programmes within Sales & Marketing, Operations, Manufacturing and Distribution functions and have collectively trained over 1000 Green and Black Belt resources. Our programmes are delivered in a modular format to aid learning and provide an applied learning approach.

  Certification & Examinations

Certified courses (LSS103, LSS105, LSS106 and LSS107) offer delegates a recognised industry qualification based on the General Electric (GE) model of Six Sigma. Upon course completion delegates will sit an examination to complete the 'training' certification process. Full certification is then achieved 6-12 months after the training upon completion of an improvement project or projects. Lean Six Sigma skills are assessed through interview and the presentation of project storyboard and outcomes.

LSS101 Six Sigma Awareness

This 1 day course provides a basic introduction to Six Sigma. Participants will be introduced to the five stages of the DMAIC methodology, the statistical background to Six Sigma and the infrastructure of a Six Sigma programme, including the different roles and responsibilities.

LSS102 Six Sigma Foundation Green Belt

This 5 day course introduces the basic Six Sigma tool box including the project charter, root cause analysis and problem solving tools. It provides a hands-on learning experience that develops both the technical and the behavioural skills required to deliver qualitative process analysis.

LSS103 - Six Sigma Practitioner Green Belt

This 12 day course enables participants to lead improvement projects, utilising both quantitative and qualitative process analysis. The course uses a blend of theory and practical exercises to develop the confidence of participants to deliver their own improvement project and provides a real opportunity to deliver realisable quick wins. Can be completed as a single programme or in modular form.

  LSS104 Managers' Green Belt

This course is intended for managers who want to understand the core tools and techniques of Six Sigma, so that they are able to support, scope and sponsor improvement projects, rather than deliver projects themselves. It is not intended as a practitioner course and provides only limited practical exercises targeted at scoping and leading rather than delivering improvement projects.

LSS105 - Six Sigma Practitioner Black Belt

This 20 day course provides participants with the necessary tools and techniques to lead and deliver Six Sigma projects and manage Green Belt resources. This is achieved through the delivery of a live business project which should be identified prior to the commencement of training. A period of approximately one month is left between classroom sessions to allow delegates the opportunity to progress their projects.

  LSS108 - Sponsor/Champion Training

This 3 day course is designed to provide business improvement champions with the knowledge and skills to effectively lead a Six Sigma deployment and focuses on the role and responsibilities with regard to Project Sponsorship and Program Development; Green and Black belt support; and the behavioural and change management aspects of effective sponsorship and ownership.
